My 4 year old son got his first assignment ever. It's for international week and he has to make a mini guide about Sri Lanka and a poster with the map of the country.
First of all I wonder if he knows the meaning of assignment, and all he had to say about it is "teacher told to do everything in this mini book." As a Four year old living in another country he has been to his motherland only a few times for short spells. And beign a 4 year old he is just learning about geographycal locations. How is he supposed to google and get details of anything? how do you expect a 4 year old to design a poster? He is just learning his alphabet. He dosn't even know to read or write a single word.
At his age I haven't even started nursery. And all I remember doing in nursery was practicing for the concert and playing with friends. What has happned to the education system in 30 years? When do they expect kids to play and learn everything the natural way? I am so confused about how I should educate my child. Should I let him go along with the flow of the world and pressure him and make everything according to the system or let him enjoy his childhood?
This first assignment is going to be done 95% by me and only the pasting part by him. after designing and selecting everything I just have to call him to paste everything and then explain as much as he could get it about the projects. I could never expect him to sit patiently and search for appropriate pictures of things he hardly knows. God help my child in this rat race.
